In the manner of Example XI, part C, 61 g of 3-amino-3-(butylmethylamino)-2-cyanopropenethioamide in 200 ml of ethanol were treated with 33 ml of 30% hydrogen peroxide (9.8 g of active H2O2) to yield 45 g of 5-amino-3-(butylmethylamino)-4-cyanoisothiazole, mp 87°-89°. The ir and nmr spectra were consistent with the assigned structure.
