Reaction Steps
A solution of 3-4 (1.6 g, 4.8 mmol) and dioxane (24 mL) at 0oC was treated with 4M HCl/dioxane (6.0 mL) followed by removal of the cooling bath. After 5 hr the reaction mixture was concentrated to give 3-5 as a yellow solid.
