3,5-Dimethylphenol, 12.2 g (100 mmole), 10.8 ml (125 mmole) of allyl bromide, and 16.56 g (120 mmole) of potassium carbonate was dissolved and then refluxed in 50 ml acetone, with stirring, under nitrogen for 18 hours. The reaction was cooled, the insoluble inorganics were filtered off and stripped to give 16.2 g (100%) of subtitled product, which was used without further purification.
