Procedure

A suspension of 2-bromo-6-methoxy-5-trifluoromethyl-1-naphthoic acid (2.0 g, 5.73 mmol, prepared by the process of Example 11, Step 2), thionyl chloride (11 mL) and dimethylformamide (40 μl, 0.095 eq) was heated with stirring at 60° C. under a dry N2 atmosphere for 35 minutes. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and the thionyl chloride was removed. The solid residue was dissolved in THF (20 mL) and this solution was added dropwise to stirred, cold (0°-5° C.) ammonium hydroxide over a 5 minute period. After 15 minutes water (100 mL) was added and the suspension was filtered. The solid was washed with water and dried in vacuo to yield the title compound as a white solid in (1.80 g, 90%)
