A suspension of 17.2 g (50.2 mmol) of ethyl 5-amino-8-chloro-1-cyclopropyl-6,7-difluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylate in 100 ml of 6 M hydrochloric acid was refluxed for three hours. The mixture was cooled to room temperature, and the solids were filtered, washed with water and ether, and dried to give 14.2 g of the title compound.
