1.43 g of trisodium phosphorothioate were added to an ice-cooled solution of 2.04 g of 2-[(3RS)-3-carbamoylpiperidin-1-yl]-2-iminoethylchloride hydrochloride in 9.7 ml of water, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for one hour. 7.9 ml of 1N hydrochloric acid were then added, and the mixture was heated at 50° C. for 30 minutes. The reaction mixture was then worked up in the same manner as in Example 3(2) to give 2.0 g of 2-[(3RS)-3-carbamoylpiperidin-1-yl]-2-iminoethylmercaptan hydrochloride.
