A solution of 0.50 g (2.44 mmol) [3R-(R*,R*)]-1-(1-phenylethyl)-3-pyrrolidinemethanol in 5 ml 1,2-dichloroethane was treated with 2 ml thionyl chloride, refluxed two hours, evaporated, and crystallized by trituration with ether to afford 0.64 g (100%) of the title compound as the hydro-chloride, mp 140°-146° C., [α]D +27.8° C. (c, 1.07, methanol).
