To a solution of N-methoxy-N,1-dimethyl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-4-carboxamide (200 mg, 1.0 eq) in 10 mL anhydrous THF was added 3 M EtBrMg (0.7 mL, 2 eq) slowly at 0° C. The reaction was stirred at rt for 1 h., quenched with sat NH4Cl (aq), and extracted with CH2Cl2. The extract was dried, concentrated, and purified by column chromatography to give the desired product (105 mg, 62% yield). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.35 (d, J=6.8 Hz, 1H), 7.06 (d, J=2.0 Hz, 1H), 6.61 (dd, J=6.8 Hz, 1.6 Hz, 1H), 3.57 (s, 3H), 2.89 (q, J=7.2 Hz, 2H), 1.20 (t, J=7.2 Hz, 3H).
