A stirred mixture of N-methoxy-N-methyl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-4-carbox-amide (200 mg, 1.0 eq), 3-chloro-N,N-dimethylpropan-1-amine hydrochloride (350 mg, 2.0 eq) and K2CO3 (455 mg, 3.0 eq) in 20 mL acetone was heated under reflux overnight. After cooling to rt, water was added, and the mixture was extracted with CH2Cl2. The extract was dried, concentrated, and purified by column chromatography to give the desired product (255 mg, 87% yield). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.40 (d, J=7.2 Hz, 1H), 6.75 (d, J=1.2 Hz, 1H), 6.30 (dd, J=6.8 Hz, 2.0 Hz, 1H), 4.02 (t, J=7.2 Hz, 2H), 3.62 (s, 3H), 3.33 (s, 3H), 2.30 (t, J=6.8 Hz, 2H), 2.23 (s, 6H), 1.93 (t, J=7.2 Hz, 2H).
