Sodium methoxide (4.29 g, 79.5 mmol) was added to a suspension of 6-bromo-2,4-dichloro-3-(3-fluorophenyl)-8-methylquinoline (3.06 g, 7.95 mmol, Intermediate 50, step c) in toluene (30 mL) in a pressure tube. The vessel was sealed and was heated in a 100° C. oil bath for 24 hours. To the mixture was added 10 wt. % aqueous NaHCO3 (60 mL), the mixture was stirred for several minutes, and the phases were separated. The organic phase was washed once with saturated aqueous NaCl. The organic phase was dried (Na2SO4), filtered, and concentrated to yield the title compound as a light yellow solid.
