4′-Chlorobiphenyl-2-carbaldehyde (EXAMPLE 27C) (4.1 g), tert-butyl piperazine-1-carboxylate (4.23 g), and sodium triacetoxyborohydride (5.61 g) in CH2Cl2 (60 mL) were combined stirred for 24 hours. The reaction was quenched with methanol and poured into ether. The solution was washed with water and brine, concentrated, and chromatographed on silica gel with 2-25% ethyl acetate/hexanes.
