To a solution of ethyl 2-[2-(tert-butoxycarbonylamino)ethylamino]-5-methylamino-thiazole-4-carboxylate (184 mg, 0.534 mmol) in a mixture of diethyletehr (15 ml) and anhydrous ethanol (15 ml) was added hydrochloric acid (4N in dioxane, 5 ml, 20 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for two days. The solids were collected by filtration, washed with diethylether and dried under reduced pressure to yield 145 mg (0.457 mmol, 86%). MS(ESI) m/z=245.1 [M+1]+.
