To 0.72 g of [2-methyl-4-(2-pyridylmethoxy)phenyl]methanol were added 30 mL of CHCl3 and 7.2 g of manganese dioxide, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. Insoluble matter was filtered off from the reaction mixture, and the mother liquor was concentrated to give 0.70 g of the title compound (99% yield).
