To a solution of (E)-methyl 3-(4-((2-bromo-6-methoxybenzo[b]thiophen-3-yl)oxy)phenyl)acrylate (100 mg, 0.238 mmol) in 1,2-dimethoxyethane (3.0 mL) was added (2-(methoxymethyl)phenyl)boronic acid (79 mg, 0.477 mmol). [1,1′-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene]dichloropalladium(II) (17.5 mg, 0.024 mmol) and Na2CO3 (2.0N aqueous, 0.358 mL, 0.715 mmol). The resulting mixture was subjected to microwave irradiation at 100° C. for 20 min after which time the reaction was diluted with EtOAc, added anhydrous Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The crude material was purified by column chromatography (SiO2, 0-20% EtOAc/Heptane) to afford (E)-methyl 3-(4-((6-methoxy-2-(2-(methoxymethyl)phenyl)benzo[b]thiophen-3-yl)oxy)phenyl)acrylate (86.6 mg, 0.188 mmol, 79% yield). LC/MS (m/z, M+H2O): 478.0.
