Procedure
A 2.0 N hydrochloric acid aqueous solution (5 mL) is added at room temperature to a stirred solution of 2-(tert-butyl-dimethyl-silanyloxymethyl)-8-methoxy-1,2-dihydro-3-oxa-5,9-diaza-cyclopenta[a]naphthalene (600 mg, 1.7 mmol, 1.0 eq) in methanol (20 mL). After 2 hours stirring at room temperature, solvent is removed, the residue is extracted with dichloromethane (3×30 mL) and water (30 mL) and the pH is adjusted to 8 by the addition of a saturated sodium carbonate aqueous solution. The combined organic layers are washed with brine, dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated to afford (8-methoxy-1,2-dihydro-3-oxa-5,9-diaza-cyclopenta[a]naphthalene-2-yl)-methanol as an off-white solid (400 mg, 99% yield).
