Procedure
Cesium carbonate (3.1 g, 9.46 mmol, 2.0 eq) is added at room temperature to a stirred solution of {trans-4-[3-(3-chloro-6-methoxy-quinolin-4-yl)-1,2-dihydroxy-propyl]-cyclohexyl}-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester (2.2 g, 4.73 mmol, 1.0 eq) in dioxane (70 mL), followed by palladium(II) acetate (159 mg, 0.71 mmol, 0.15 eq) and racemic-2-di-tert-butylphosphino-1,1′-binaphthyl (283 mg, 0.71 mmol, 0.15 eq). After 3 hours stirring at 100° C., solvent is removed and the residue is extracted with dichloromethane (3×100 mL) and water (100 mL). The combined organic layers are washed with brine, dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated to afford {trans-4-[hydroxy-(8-methoxy-1,2-dihydro-furo[2,3-c]quinolin-2-yl)-methyl]-cyclohexyl}-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester as a light grey solid (1.35 g, 67% yield).
