8.4 g of (+/−)-cis-1,2-dimethoxy-4-(2-nitrocyclohex-4-enyl)benzene are dissolved in 450 ml of methanol, admixed with 2 ml of conc. hydrochloric acid and hydrogenated after the addition of 500 mg of Pd/C 10%. The reaction mixture is filtered and the filtrate is concentrated. M.p.: 84-86.5° C.; Yield quantitative.
