To a stirring solution of 5-bromo-N4-ethyl-2-(methylthio)pyrimidine-4,6-diamine (intermediate 19) (4.2 mmol) in 10 ml of DCM, 1.04 g (4.6 mmol) of m-chloroperbenzoic acid (77%) (Aldrich) in 3 ml of DCM were added dropwise. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. After evaporation of the solvent under reduced pressure, the remaining solid was first washed with cold DCM and then several times with cold water, filtered and dried. 1.11 g (95%) of 5-bromo-N4-ethyl-2-(methylsulfinyl)pyrimidine-4,6-diamine were obtained.
