To a solution of 1-(4-bromophenyl)ethan-1-ol (2.8 g, 13.93 mmol) and imidazole (2.84 g, 41.79 mmol) in DMF (35 mL) was added TBDMSCl (4.18 g, 27.86 mmol) at r.t., and the reaction was stirred overnight. The reaction was diluted with water (70 mL) and extracted with EtOAc (50 mL×3). Organics were washed with brine (50 mL), dried (Na2SO4), and concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (PE:EtOAc=100:1) to give 4.08 g (95%) of the title compound as a colorless oil.
