A mixture of 2-bromo-4-fluoro-(methyloxy)aniline (15 g, 68 mmol), 2,2-dimethyl-[1,3]dioxane-4,6-dione (11.8 g, 82 mmol) and trimethylorthoformate (13.6 mL) in ethanol (70 mL) was refluxed for 3 hours. After cooling, the solid was filtered off, washed with ethanol and air dried. To give the product (23.3 g, 92%) as a white solid. LC-MS (ES) (M+H)+ m/z=374.
