Using general procedure B, 5-methyl-benzo[b]thiophene was reacted with benzaldehyde to give (5-methyl-benzo[b]thiophen-2-yl)-phenyl-methanol as a colorless solid. MS: 237.1 ([M+H—H2O]+).
