cyclizing the 1,1,1-trifluoro-5-(2-methylphenyl)-2,3-pentanedione 3-oxime with 100% sulfuric acid or with aqueous sulfuric acid containing from 50 up to 100% by weight of sulfuric acid per volume of water, i.e. 50% up to 100% (w/v) aqueous sulfuric acid, to obtain 3,4-dihydro-1-hydroxy-5-methyl-1-(trifluoromethyl)-2(1H)-naphthalenone oxime;
