Procedure
A mixture of 1,3-dichloroisoquinoline (5.0 g; see Example 8) and p-anisidine (3.1 g) was heated at a temperature of 170° C. for a period of 2 hours. After cooling the product was purified by column chromatography over silica gel (eluant dichloromethane) to give 3-chloro-1-[N-(4-methoxyphenyl)amino]isoquinoline (1.32 g) mp 101° C.
