0.8 g of potassium tert-butoxide was added to a solution of 0.53 g of phenol in 10 ml of dry dimethyl formamide. When all the butoxide had dissolved, a solution of 1.4 g of 25B in 10 ml of dry dimethylformamide (10 ml) was added and the stirred mixture was heated to 75° C. for 90 minutes. The reaction mixture was poured into a large excess of ice-water, the solid product filtered off and recrystallized from hexane/ethyl acetate to give 25, as a solid, m.p.: 83°-85° C.
