Procedure
A mixture of 43 parts of 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2-methylpiperazine and 375 parts of a hydrobromic acid solution 48% in water was stirred and refluxed overnight. The reaction mixture was evaporated and the residue was crystallized from 2-propanol. The product was filtered off and dried, yielding 72 parts (97%) of 4-(2-methyl-1-piperazinyl)phenol dihydrobromide (77).
