Procedure
meta-Chloroperbenzoic acid (0.11 g) was added in portions over a period of 5 minutes to a stirred suspension of 6-(4-[4-methylthiophenyl]-2-methylimidazol-1-yl)-8-methyl-2-(1H)-quinolone (0.2 g) in dichloromethane (10 cm3) at 0°. The mixture was stirred at 0° for 30 minutes, then poured into saturated aqueous sodium carbonate solution (30 cm3) and extracted with dichloromethane (3×25 cm3). The combined and dried (MgSO4) extracts were evaporated in vacuo to give a solid which was recrystallised from dichloromethane to give the title compound, m.p. 313°-5°, (0.08 g).
