To a solution of 3-amino-2-benzoyl-6-chloroindole (step 1, 60 mg, 0.21 mmol) in acetic acid (10 ml) was added sodium cyanate (14 mg, 0.21 mmol) and the mixture was stirred for 1.5 h at 90° C. After cooling, the mixture was poured into a saturated sodium bicarbonate (50 ml) and extracted with ethyl acetate (40 ml×2), dried (MgSO4) and concentrated. The residual solids were purified by flash column chromatography eluting with hexane/ethyl acetate (1/1) to give 10 mg (15%) of the title compound as yellow solids.
