(1-Dimethylcarbamoyl-2-phenyl-ethyl)-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester (8.6 g, 29 mmol) was dissolved in 4 M HCl-dioxane (110 ml) at 0° C. and the mixture stirred at 25° C. for 1 hour. The mixture was concentrated and the solids triturated with ether. Yield, 6.2 g, 92%; PBMS 193 (MH+, 100%).
