Procedure

A solution of (N-benzyl-N-methylsulfamoyl)acetamide (see Example 1(b), 13.0 g, 50.5 mmol) in methanol (130 ml) was hydrogenated over Pearlman's catalyst (7.5 g) at 60° C. and at 345 kPa (50 psi) for 24 hr. The solution was then filtered through a pad of celite (trade mark) which was subsequently washed with acetone (50 ml). The combined filter was evaporated in vacuo to give a white solid which was dried in vacuo at 50° C. overnight to yield the subtitle compound (8.0 g, 98%) as a white solid. m.p. 104-108° C.
