Procedure
To a solution of 5 g of 2,3-dichloro-4-hydroxy-3'-fluorobenzophenone in 50 ml of pyridine, 1.58 g of hydroxylamine hydrochloride is added. The mixture is refluxed for 18 hours. The pyridine is evaporated in vacuo and the residue is partitioned between 5% HCl and ethylacetate. The ethylacetate is washed with water, dried over Na2SO4 and evaporated to give 2,3-dichloro-4-hydroxy-3'-fluorobenzophenone oxime as a mixture of isomers, mp 178°-185° C.
