To 42.0 g (0.172 mole) of 1-(p-chlorophenylthio)hexan-2-ol and 21.6 g (0.189 mole) of methane sulfonyl chloride in 100 ml of toluene is slowly added 20.8 g (0.206 mole) of triethylamine over a 1/2 hour period at less than 15° C. When the addition is completed, the mixture is stirred for 1/2 hour, and is allowed to warm to ambient temperature.
