A solution of 28 g (174 mmol) of 2-ethyl-7-methylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (prepared according to Example 1, Steps A and B, but substituting propionic acid in place of butyric acid in Step B) and m-chloroperbenzoic acid (80-90%, 44.6 g) in CHCl3 (300 mL) was heated at reflux for 0.5 hours. The mixture was concentrated and purified (SiO2, 100% CH2Cl2 gradient to 30% CH2Cl2 /MeOH) to give the title compound as a solid.
