A solution of 15.8 g (22.5 mmol) of Compound 5 in 20 mL of ethyl acetate and 20 mL of methanol was mixed with 0.4 g of palladium-on-carbon in a parr flask under a nitrogen atmosphere. The mixture was reacted at 50-60° C. under 50 psi H2 for 4 hours. After cooling, the product was filtered through Celite diatomaceous earth and the solvent removed to yield 12.7 g of impure product (Compound 6).
