Procedure

2.47 ml (19.4 mmole) of trimethylsilyl chloride and 1.7 g (24.3 mmole) of imidazole were added to a solution of 900 mg (3.24 mmole) of (2R*,3R*)-3-methyl-2-(4-chlorophenyl) -(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-2-pentanol in 20 ml of N,N-dimethylformamide, and then the mixture was stirred at 50° C. for 4 hours. At the end of this time, the reaction mixture was poured into water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with water and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, after which the solvent was removed by distillation under reduced pressure to give 1.3 g of the title compound in the form of a crude oil.
