To a stirred solution of 4-methyl-1-(pyridin-4-yl)-4-(trimethylsilyloxy)pent-2-yn-1-one (3.0 g, 11.0 mmol) in DCM (60 mL) was added PTSA (2.62 g, 13.0 mmol) at RT and the reaction mixture was stirred for 1 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with water (10 mL), the organic layer was washed with a saturated NaHCO3 solution, water, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and then concentrated in vacuo to afford 4-hydroxy-4-methyl-1-(pyridin-4-yl) pent-2-yn-1-one (1.5 g, 69%) as an oil.
