Procedure
Into a 50 mL round bottom flask were added 5-bromoisoquinoline (1.12 g, 5.4 mmol), toluene (10 mL), (R)-tert-butyl 3-aminopyrrolidine-1-carboxylate (1.00 g, 5.4 mmol), palladium acetate (0.18 g, 0.8 mmol), rac-(±)-BINAP (0.500 g, 0.8 mmol), and cesium carbonate (2.80 g, 8.6 mmol). The vessel was evacuated, refilled with nitrogen and stirred at 80° C. for 12 h. The mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate (20 mL), washed with water (10 mL), and the organic phase was dried over MgSO4, filtered and evaporated to afford the title compound (1.00 g, 59%). This material was of sufficient quality to be used without further purification.
