To a mixture of methyl 4-bromo-6-(methyloxy)-1,5-naphthyridine-3-carboxylate (1.67 g, 5.64 mmol)) and NaHCO3 (0.84 g, 10 mmol) in MeOH (20 ml) and 1,4-dioxane (15 ml) was added 10% Pd/C (0.75 g) and the mixture was then stirred at rt under 1 atmosphere of hydrogen for 3 h. The reaction mixture was then filtered through a thin pad of Celite, washing through with EtOH. The filtrate was evaporated and stirred in 50 ml of water, the solid was then filtered off and dried in vacuo to give the desired product (1.19 g, 96%).
