4-(N-(furan-2-ylmethyl)sulfamoyl)benzoic acid (Example 5-2b) (500 mg, 1.8 mmol), p-methoxy benzyl chloride (624 mg, 4.0 mmol), and cesium carbonate (1.3 g, 4.0 mmol) were dissolved in DMF (10 mL) and stirred at 80° C. for 1 hour. The mixture was cooled to ambient temperature, diluted with H2O (200 mL), and extracted with ethyl acetate (3×100 mL). The combined organics were dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated on the rotovap. The product was purified by silica gel chromatography (15% ethyl acetate in hexanes) to provide the 4-methoxybenzyl 4-(N-(furan-2-ylmethyl)-N-(4-methoxybenzyl)sulfamoyl)benzoate (753 mg, 80%) as a clear oil. 1H NMR (DMSO-d6, 400 MHz): δ 3.70 (s, 3H), 3.75 (s, 3H), 4.22 (s, 2H), 4.26 (s, 2H), 5.39 (s, 2H), 6.14 (d, 1H, J=3.2 Hz), 6.25 (m, 1H), 6.87 (d, 2H, J=8.8 Hz), 6.97 (d, 2H, J=8.8 Hz), 7.13 (d, 2H, J=8.4 Hz), 7.39 (m, 1H), 7.43 (d, 2H, J=8.4 Hz), 7.91 (d, 2H, J=8.4 Hz), 8.07 (d, 2H, J=8.4 Hz).
