4-[N-(7-Hydroxy-3-oxahept-1-yl)-N-(isopropyl)amino]-1-benzylpiperidine (3.7 g, 10.6 mmol) was treated with dibromotriphenylphosphorane (11.2 g, 26.6 mmol) in dichloromethane for 2 h. The reaction mixture was then was washed with 1 N sodium hydroxide, saturated sodium bicarbonate, brine, dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated to give the title intermediate, which was used without further purification.
