A stirred solution of ethyl-2-[1-[[5-methyl-3-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-pyrazol-1-yl]acetyl]-4-piperidinyl]-4-thiazolecarboxylate (13.0 g, 30.2 mmol) (i.e. the product of Example 2, Step B) in methanol (60 mL) was cooled to 0° C. and treated with an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (1 N, 36.3 mL, 36.3 mmol). The stirred reaction mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature for 5 h. The reaction mixture was cooled again to 0° C. and treated with aqueous hydrochloric acid (1 N, 36.3 mL, 36.3 mmol). The resulting precipitate was collected under filtration, washed with water and dried in a vacuum oven at 100° C. to give 10.95 g of the title compound as a white solid.
