To a solution of (R)-4-[2-(2-ethoxycarbonylphenyl)-vinyl]-2,2-dimethyl-oxazolidine-3-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (3.3 g, 8.70 mmol) in methanol (50 mL) is added conc. HCl (4 mL) and stirred at RT for 18 h. The solvent is removed under reduced pressure and EtOAc and 2N NaOH, which is saturated by NaCl, is added. The aqueous phase is extracted with EtOAc and the organic phases are combined together, washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated to afford the title compound as a white solid: (M+1)+=236.
