To a solution of {2-[3-benzyloxy-4-(1,1,4-trioxo-1,2,5-thiadiazolidin-2-yl)-benzyl]-phenyl}-acetic acid methyl ester (Example 512, step C) in water/MeOH/MeCN (1:1:1) is added KOH and the mixture is heated at 60° C. for 1 h. The mixture is cooled to RT, acidified with 1N HCl and extracted with EtOAc. The organic phase is washed with brine and dried over magnesium sulfate. The solvent is removed under reduced pressure to give the title compound which is used directly in the next step.
