A stirred solution of 10.0 g (0.04 mole) of cis-3-(2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoro-1-propenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid in 100 ml of toluene was heated to 80° C. To this solution at 80° C. was added dropwise over 10 minutes a solution of 10.5 g (0.08 mole) of oxalyl chloride in 5 ml of toluene, and the whole heated at 80° C. for 26 hours. The toluene and excess oxalyl chloride were removed by distillation to give a residual oil which was distilled under reduced pressure using a Kugelrohr distilling system to give 8.2 g of cis-3-(2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoro-1-propenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarbonyl chloride; b.p. 85° C./0.09 mm. The nmr and ir spectra were consistent with the proposed structure.
