To a suspension of 1h (110 mg, 0.59 mmol) in 10 mL pyridine was added O-methylhydroxylamine hydrochloride (52 mg, 0.63 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at 60° C. for overnight. The reaction was quenched with 1 N HCl solution, extracted with ethyl acetate and dried with MgSO4. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure to yield a crude product, which was purified by column chromatography to give pure compounds 2f-cis (41 mg) and 2f-trans (33 mg). 1H NMR (500 MHz, CDCl3) δ 8.13 (s, 1H), 7.96-7.94 (m, 2H), 7.45-7.44 (m, 3H), 6.94 (s, 2H), 4.13 (s, 3H), 3.91 (s, 6H), 3.88 (s, 3H). MS (ESI) m/z 407.2 (M+Na)+.
