To a solution of N-{5-chloro-2-[(3-methoxybenzyl)thio]phenyl}-1-benzofuran-2-sulfonamide (315 mg, 0.69 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (5 ml) at room temperature was added BBr3 (1M solution in CH2Cl2, 2.1 ml, 2.1 mmol) and the reaction was stirred for 2 h, diluted with EtOAc, washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4, concentrated in vacuo. The crude product was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (25% ethyl acetate in hexane) to give the title compound (196 mg, 64%).
