Preparation of 4-chloromethylbenzocyclobutene was also effected by a similar procedure beginning with o-methylbenzyl chloride, however, the procedure yielded about a 1:2 mixture of 3-chloromethylbenzocyclobutene and 4-chloromethylbenzocyclobutene.
