3.9 ml of piperidine were introduced into a solution of 2 g of 8-chloro-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinoline hydrochloride in 5 ml of water and the mixture was stirred for 15 minutes, heated for two-and-a-half hours at 57°-2° C., then cooled to ambient temperature. The medium was saturated with sodium chloride and extracted with ether. The solvent was eliminated under reduced pressure to obtain 2.07 g of 8-(1-piperidinyl)-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinoline.
