Procedure
m-(3-Chloropropyloxy)benzaldehyde (15 g) was dissolved in 200 ml of ethanol. With ice cooling, 1.5 g of sodium borohydride was added little by little. Two hours later, the excess of the hydride was decomposed with 5% hydrochloric acid, followed by concentration. The residue was extracted with ethyl acetate, and dried. The solvent was evaporated to give 15 g of m-(3-chloropropyloxy)benzyl alcohol quantitatively.
