tert-Butyl mesitylsulfonyloxycarbamate (1.51 g, 5.42 mmol) was added to cold (0° C.) trifluoroacetic acid (10.8 mL) and the mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 45 minutes. The mixture was diluted with cold (0° C.) water and the white precipitate was collected by filtration and washed with 1000 mL of cold (0° C.) water. The solid was dried by suction for about 5 minutes and then dissolved in cold (0° C.) dichloromethane and dried (Na2SO4). The solution was filtered and the filtrate was concentrated to a volume of about 12 mL on the rotary evaporator without heating. The solution was then directly used in the next step.
