Procedure
tert-Butyl-6-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2,6-diazaspiro[3.3]heptane-2-carboxylate (0.620 g, 2.56 mmol) was dissolved in dry THF (13 mL) and chilled to 0° C. Lithium aluminum hydride (7.68 mL, 7.68 mmol, 1M in THF) was added by syringe. Once addition was complete, the mixture was brought to reflux for 16 hours. The reaction was cooled to 0° C., quenched with 291 μL of water, 291 μL of 15% aq. NaOH, and 873 μL of water, stirred vigorously for two hours, and then filtered. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give 268 mgs (67%) of the title compound.
